Upcoming Booth Preview: Paper Fortune Cookies
I’m glad everyone’s liking the Vintage Pinwheels so far– thanks for all the encouraging comments on Twitter and Facebook! ;]
I just wanted to update today with more photos of yet another brand-new item that will be making its debut at Booth #4 this Sunday: the Paper Fortune Cookie!
I wish I could spin this into a ‘tribute to my Chinese roots’ kind of thing, but everyone knows the fortune cookie is more an invention of North American “Chinese” food than anything remotely close to traditional oriental cuisine! Handmade entirely out of paper, these even have little strips that you can pull out and read.
Here’s a close-up of a lone Fortune Cookie, made out of really pretty Teal paper, with Magenta and Brick Red designs on it. Each of those little strips were typewritten, cut, and inserted by myself, one by one! If you’ve ever typed on a manual typewriter before (and better still, on one made in the cheapest possible manner during the Great Depression), you’re probably able to appreciate how tiring and error-prone this process was– having to thwack keys really hard to get a good impression, and also having no backspace key which we computer-savvy people take for granted.
All 4 of these designs will be for sale at the booth this Sunday! It was tough deciding what paper to use, but I’m really pleased with how these turned out. A good mix of pretty and guy-friendly patterns. There are 3 of each design up for grabs (12 in total), each of them saying a different message inside. Curious to find out what the text reads? Come down and find out ;]
